The Hidden Sorrow- قصيدة بالانكليزية

Abd Y. Lafi

عبد يونس لافي

Did you not know

that even at rest, we remain weary?

We force laughter

but conceal the sorrow hidden deep.

We breathe sighs till they groan

and from the groaning of the chest

they've perfected the art of moaning.

I'm amazed sweetness lingers

while bitterness fills our mouths

and grief sits heavy on our brows.

Tribulations come, one after another

disturbing our peace,

a burden we bear, that weighs us down

and troubles us deeply.

A heavy weight we've grown tired of

yet it’s become part of us

we accept it… it accepts us

we follow it… it follows us.

Wherever we go, we go together

we've grown accustomed to one another

we keep a covenant between us

but how can the covenant hold

if we break the oath?
